Erbium Annihilation

Steevy Carlisle

The disappearance of erbium (a silvery-white solid metal element in the lanthanide series, symbol ‘Er’, atomic number 68) from areas affected by the superposition may have gone unnoticed if it were not for the intrusion at Athabasca Holdings. Native survivors of the retraction recall a bright pink flash at the instant of the intrusion, a phenomenon not reported at other sites. However it was the obvious nuclear degradation of Xenotime stockpiles at Athabasca which lead investigators to confirm the element had apparently been consumed during the event. The effect was subsequently confirmed at other sites where traces of erbium were known to have existed prior to the event.
